Matthew 5:5 (KJV)
5  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Most people see meekness as weakness. But I have learned that it is really power under control. The believer who masters this attitude will be successful in all God’s direction for their life. This is Superman in the form of Clark Kent, power under control.

As a young pastor I could not take criticism. I felt that I needed to show myself as strong to be a good leader. Now as time has passed I find that most criticism is not personal and should be listened to. Learning has no age limits! 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)
16  All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17  that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. I have learned that God’s Word is “profitable”. It is profitable for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness.

For believers who have this attitude are more than not at the top of their game and are in position to inherit the earth. We are blessed.

Matthew 5:4 (KJV)
4  Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

This has always been a calming scripture for me. God always comforts those who mourn. If only in His presence He brings peace to the hurting heart.

Why are we mourning? Why does our Master talk about mourning? Maybe He is looking at our heart and identifying our lack of mourning for the sinfulness around us or maybe in us. Have we become too casual  in our dealing with sin? Dismissing the very thing Jesus died for.

 Romans 3:23 (KJV)
23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

All have sinned. We all have the same affliction! Even believers struggle with this affliction, every day! We must come as guilty, no excuses, before the One who paid for those sins and seek forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 (KJV)
9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  Then we can see clear to be broken as He is over the sin around us. With purity of heart we share with power the Gospel to a lost world never apologizing when we stand against SIN. We are comforted by His presence in power. We are blessed!

Matthew 5:3 (KJV)
3  Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus called His disciples together and began to teach. He didn’t restrict others who wanted to hear His message. So there were many listening to this great paradox. His disciples understood it but many were confused. But this poverty of spirit is a gracious disposition of soul, by which we are emptied of self, in order to our being filled with Jesus Christ.”
Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible.

David understood as he stated in his psalm of repentance, Psalm 51:17 (KJV)
17  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. We are to come broken, poor , Romans 7:24 (KJV)
24  O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Only when we have come to Christ, poor in spirit, repentant will we ever come to understand the amazing riches of His kingdom. We are blessed!
