Matthew 5:44 (KJV)
44  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Whoever said that living as a Christian is easy hasn’t read the bible. Love your enemies? What’s up with that? Christ commands us to not just love them but adds, “bless them, do good to them and pray for them”. I thought that if we kept them kinda neutral we were ok, but He wants us to take positive action towards them.

There is an abiding problem in churches today that keep us from being the best for Him. That is seeing people in the church as enemies. You might be thinking that this cannot be true. I have heard an evangelist say once that whenever you use the terms “them” and “they” instead of “we” and “our” there is already a problem. How can we have this attitude with those that are our family in Christ. You might want to remember that these folks are the people we will be spending eternity with. We might want to use the love that Christ has given us in this situation.

I have learned from being a Christian for 48 years that when we begin to bless, do good for and pray for our enemies that the light of the Holy Spirit’s conviction shines brightest on me! Apparently God expects His children to be better than the world. It’s easy to love the lovely. It is something else entirely to love those who are not. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (KJV) 4  Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5  Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6  Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7  Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

The love of Christ was manifest to us when we were in rebellion towards God. (Rom 5:8). He shows the power of genuine love in His blood shed for us. We are blessed.
