Matthew 5:38-42 (KJV)
38  Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39  But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40  And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
41  And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42  Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

“Ye have heard…But I say…” Jesus is not changing the law but rather giving instructions on attitudes for living.  Don’t fight! I was watching an old western and there was a scene that included a preacher. A bad man came up to him and hit him right vicious right hook. The preacher got up, dusted himself off and stood. The bad man hit him again. The preacher got up, dusted himself off, and proceeded to throttle the bad man. A witness asked him why he let him hit you twice. The preacher said that the bible says to turn the other cheek, but doesn’t say what to do after that. Sometimes we need to understand that God is teaching an attitude and not limit, or loose action. Don’t be drawn into a fight, walk away.

Words are sometimes more hurtful than a smack in the face. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 (KJV) 11  And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;. 1 Peter 3:4 (KJV) 4  But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. The hardest thing to do is to not speak, not return an evil remark. Hold your peace. Seek wisdom. Have a meek spirit, but not a weak one. I heard it said that is better to be quiet and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Living for Christ isn’t easy! But every action and every word become your testimony. My prayer is that my actions and words reflect faithfulness. We are blessed
