Morning Coffee

March 7, 2018

Matthew 6:11 (KJV)
11  Give us this day our daily bread.

In Exodus 16:15 Moses said “This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat”. It was given each morning and was enough to feed the whole family. They couldn’t keep any for the morrow it would rot, so each day they had to trust God for their daily bread. Is it any wonder that the first petition in this prayer is for our daily needs? Our life in Christ is to be one day at a time. Although we look forward with vision to the things that God calls us to do, our provision are for this day. The day that the Lord has made, let’s rejoice and be glad.

We worry so much about tomorrow. Will we have enough to get us through? We begin to trust in ourselves and fall flat. We forget the promise in God’s word, Psalm 37:25 (KJV) 25  I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Jesus said that He “is the bread of life”. (John 6:35). One of the furnishings of the Holy place was the Golden Table of Showbread. I believe Jesus is using this example of daily bread to teach our total reliance on Him for all things. Just as our life would end without food, our life without Him is empty and hopeless. Those in Christ abide in the shadow of the Most High and His hand covers us. In our hardest trial and deepest sorrow His presence overwhelms us and His Spirit comforts us. We are blessed.
