Matthew 6:19-21 (KJV)
19  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

This World is Not My Home is one of my favorite Southern Gospel songs. “This world is not my home, I’m only passing through, my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue, the angels beckon me from heaven’s open door, and I don’t feel at home in this world anymore.” In 1961 there were no storage facilities anywhere. Now they are one of America’s fastest growing businesses. We do accumulate stuff! Things we just have to have but never use. We become so worldly minded that we are no heavenly good. It drains us of our time, money and influence. When Moses was on the mountain with God the people were in the valley worried that Moses Had died. They took up an offering to build an idol, a god, to lead them in his stead. (Exodus 32:7&8) Those riches were given by God so they could build a tabernacle for worship. They used up their riches for themselves instead of for God. It’s the same today. The devil appeals to the flesh the things that we just can’t live without. So that when God leads us to give, it’s gone. Malachi 3:9-10 (KJV) 9  Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10  Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

It is sad that sometimes we become so heavenly minded that we are no earthly good. That is not saying that we shouldn’t always keep our eyes on Him. But that we should balance ourselves in His service both to worship and work. We are ambassadors of Christ from heaven to represent Him in this world. (2Cor. 5:20) Getting balanced while living in this world is hard. But he promises to be with us always (Mat. 28:18-20). We are blessed.
