Morning Coffee

John 1:39 (KJV)
39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

Jesus’ words, “come and see”, was an invitation to Andrew and the other disciple, name unknown, to come to His house and see. It was there that the two were convinced that Jesus was the Christ. Andrew went and found his brother Simon and brought him to Jesus where he was convinced that Jesus was the one, the Christ. Convinced, Consumed, Changed, Commissioned to the work; his name was changed to Peter and that was just the beginning. Jesus saw in Simon more than that which was present. Jesus looked past Simon’s faults, fears and failures, and saw the outstanding leader of the church. Jesus looked at people for what they could become not what they were. He was not myopic in His vision but looked with eyes that saw beyond what was just in front of Him.

I have had the pleasure, and great blessing, of seeing young people make decisions about Christian service that I had reservation about, but still saw some greatness deep in their heart. Some have became good faithful members of their local church while two are active on the mission field, one in Africa and the other here in Oklahoma as a director of missions. Not to just see them saved, but grow in their Christian life. I have to constantly pray for patience, because those who are being saved and serving make mistakes and sometimes crash and burn. But patience with wisdom teaches me to look at what they can be and not who they are or what they have done. Jesus saw Simon and saw him as the rock, the one who will lead the first church through Pentecost and through the growth of the early church.

My heart still breaks when those who have committed to serve fall away, sometimes overwhelmed by the task others by love of this present world. But I am reminded of the promise of the prodigal son. Luke 15:17-18 (KJV)
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,.
I will continue to pray for each one until they all come back to the father. We must remain faithful. We are blessed.
